A Little Light...A Little Heavy...

A late dinner last night and then the late showing of "Sherlock Holmes" was a lovely way to end the day.  We all enjoyed the film (though youngest still says "Avatar" was the best movie he's seen in a long time), and it was quite in keeping with the way Conan Doyle has portrayed Holmes and Watson.  It's been produced in such a way that you know sequels will be in the works!  As long as Robert Downey Jr. continues as Holmes, I'm sure I'll keep watching!

Three of us are fighting colds here which is not unusual at this time of year.  Plenty of sniffling, sneezing, and coughing going around.  'Tis the season to share your germs, fa la la la la, la la la la....

I did get a new camera for Christmas from the men in my life...this is it.  I haven't done anything with it as yet...I'm still reading and familiarizing myself with it.  It's a "mighty impressive" piece of equipment!!

I'm  happily passing the time with reading (nothing new there!).  I finished a nice light novel by Kristin Harmel called "Italian for Beginners" which was charming and delightful.  A little travel, a little romance...

And something very "heavy", not just in content but in weight and number of pages...I mentioned this yesterday, but if you like historical novels that are well written and informative, Edward Rutherfurd's "New York" would be the one.

And for Christmas I was gifted this book by one of my sons...761 pages...I'm thoroughly looking forward to delving into and losing myself in this one!

Novels and films...a relaxing and enjoyable way to spend holiday time!

Oh, that sounds like a great way to spend the holidays - with movie, books and - I am sure - good food! It all sounds divine - except the colds! Get better soon! Hugs, Silke

It all sounds lovely! The cover of that second book reminds me of a few scenes in the movie Under The Tuscan Sun. As always, I appreciate your book recommendations. I can't wait to hear more about that book of women's letters from your son.

Isn't Robert Downey, Jr wonderful?

A new camera - what a thoughtful present for the artist in the lives of your entourage. We had trash pick up yesterday too, despite it being a unionized holiday. The slush is now freezing, winter returning after a few days of rain. Glad to hear Holmes was good, we were thinking of seeing It's Complicated, but it might be complicated finding a sitter over the next week. I'm always curious to hear what others are reading, thanks for sharing.

Mr. Dragon wants to see the new Sherlock. I figure it will be out in DVD by the time he can go into crowds! That's okay -- add to the Holmes collection.

A camera -- lucky girl -- Santa loves you! :D :D

Books --- heaven.

We haven't seen either yet. We did see Brothers, which falls under the heavy category.

I'd like to see Avatar though, looks really good.

You know, I am not sure if I could make it through a book like New York!!! It looks rather BIG. lol!!! xoxo

I thought I was an avid reader, but you read more than I do! I also enjoyed Italian for Beginners, but then I love all things Italian! Your camera looks fantastic--enjoy!
Feel better and Happy New Year!

That is a pretty sweet looking camera! I can't wait to see how the photos look. I'm still completely intimidated by my own new camera but I hope to crack the manual open this week and get some idea what I'm doing:>) Hubby & I can't wait to see Holmes and Avatar but we wait until the crowds die down. Hope you feel better soon, so many have been sick this Christmas!

Have fun learning your new camera.
We have not seen Sherlock Holmes yet but next on the list. We saw Avatar. The special effects were great but I was not that enamored with the story. To tell you the truth I was disappointed in the movie.
Oh well to each his own.
