A Glimpse -- The Monarch Meets Miss Ruby

Last Sunday was a perfect day for being at the nursery. Our front garden is almost complete but we knew that we wanted to add a butterfly bush. Sheridan Nurseries had a sale, half off the Black Knight Butterfly Bush so we thought we'd take a look. I didn't see myself having "The Black Knight" in my garden as I kept asking if we'd also need "The Boy Wonder".  Yes, my comic humour is often "sad", but I delight in finding humour in life!

Not to worry. The beautiful Miss Ruby was available...while the Black Knight is a bush with dark purple flowers, the Miss Ruby is a jewel as you can see. Miss Ruby was also full price but worth every penny.

We located the spot we thought would be most deserving of this bush, put the pot on the ground and came in to make lunch.

Before the plant had even been placed into the ground, this delightful Monarch came to pay a visit. How magnificent this butterfly looks against Miss Ruby. How quiet and how peaceful to stand for 10 minutes or more just watching this butterfly. How magnificent that nature accommodates so beautifully and how blessed we were to notice!  With all my practice with nothing during the last week, just being still and watching this magnificent creature was true "nothing".

Having this bush where we can see it from the front of the house will bring us hours of pleasure when the butterflies return next year.  I'm glad we had the opportunity have one visitor before it was time for the monarchs to head south.

This was my glimpse for the week.  Tell me, what beauty did you see this week?

They aren't kidding when they call it a butterfly bush, huh? How lovely to intentionally attract such things to our gardens. Great choice!

Butterfly and bush - both beautiful! (How's that for an alliteration?) You made a great capture there Sherry Lee. I love the shadow of the bush on part of the butterfly's wing.

I am on the lookout to personally see the red fox visiting our land. My DH and a neighbour have seen him, but I have not been so fortunate yet. As you say - beauty behind us, in front of us, before us. We just have to look.

Just love the monarch, I miss them so! I raised a couple of them as a child, from egg to butterfly. It was one of the most wonderful experiences in my life!
Yes, the Santa was really cute - I just love those unexpected sights at the flea market.
Have a lovely Sunday!

pink, orange and black- stunning eye candy.
i watched a red tailed hawk circle over my son's soccer game yesterday. the way the sun illuminates the tail and burnishes it to a glow is captivating.

Miss Ruby is beautiful. I love butterflies. I always have since I was a little girl. I would capture them and put them in my bug catcher and then give them a few flowers and grass to eat. After observing it for a bit, I'd release it to go back to the flowers again.

You are going to have so many wonderful pictures with Miss Ruby's help.

Fantastic shot of the butterfly! Stunning. I went to the nursery yesterday, but it is still a couple weeks too early here in the desert to plant...yet I have that need to dig in the earth right now.

We have the beautiful purple buddleia bush, but I've never seen a ruby one, how lovely.

I have a buddlia outside my bedroom window (I think it's the dark knight) I just love how not only the butterflies but also the hummingbirds and hummingbird moths cover it when it is in bloom! It really does attract them like a magnet. I have been admiring the clear, cool sunny beauty of autumn days this week, hope we have more next week.
