A Glimpse - I'm Going to Spill It!!

This is my Glimpse for the week.

I'm going to get my hands dirty and make a mess, and within that mess I am going to create beautiful art.

I'm taking a workshop called "Spill It" with artist Carmen Torbus which begins October 1st and already we have homework, before the class even begins!

There is some part of my brain that holds the concept that creating art means being neat and tidy. It means staying within the lines and following a pattern. I'm not sure why my brain holds this impression. I've been trying to shake this off like gum that has become stuck to my shoe. I know it isn't the truth and over time I have been learning to stick that crayon outside the lines as I experienced with Wreck This Journal. I've been learning that what I conceive in my mind is not necessarily what needs to be spread across the canvas and that in keeping those rigid ideas I am not allowing my true gift to shine forth.

So I'll make a mess with those paints and splatter and spill and revel in the joy of creating with colour and depth and texture and wild abandon. Stay tuned...there is a fierceness that is just waiting to burst forth. I can feel it!

Feel like getting your hands dirty with creative juice? To register for Carmen's workshop, click on the badge at the top of the page.

I've also just learned that Carmen is offering a free tuition to one lucky participant. Check out the details here.

Hey Sherry Lee: Thanks for the heads up - it sounds exciting. I am going to check it out. My only problem is that I am in the midst of moving my studio - so not quite ready for mess mode.

You sound so excited about it and I hope you will show us what you produce/spill. Yes, you will have to "spill it" to all of your followers!

OH my gosh that's cool!
Thanks for your comment Sherry.. I wish you could of been there to. It was one of those nights for those starting with cancer and those who are survivors..To give hope to those just starting out. One lady standing with me was just starting out with breast cancer and of course it was hard for her..She looked at me when I told my story and said 12 yrs..*Im going to be ok!* I believe to talking about it helps us , our families and community.
My Kids went to the one School , I also worked there as well till my second time with cancer. So being able to be there was great being asked my some my sons friends to come was great to.
I agree our kids are touched by it they go through it with us and they to make changes in themselves along the way. My three I know have. They are all givers and help others. Two went in to the medical profession as well. One is always working on a fundraiser to help others or going some place to help . I think we learn lessons from it and become different and better people.
I believe you, me and others with cancer who talk about it with our kids..and don't hide it. Do make
it very different. It opens them up to give and help others. I think to this game..Took away the stigma..of which cancer holds to. It brought it out in the community when some think it should be hidden away.
The Kids each wore a shirt with a name of someone in honor or in memory that they knew. So that itself was impact on how it touchs all of us.
In the end of the game. It was cool they formed a pink ribbon in the middle of the field..I have good friends fighting breast cancer a few were there. So It doesn't matter what color the ribbon was..Just surviving and caring and supporting those around us.
The kids were all singing and just having a great time. Left all of us survivors with such an awesome show of community support.

Thanks for showing this video to.
Going to take a look see.

I know exactly what you mean about the 'need' to be neat and tidy. I love how you said you are trying to shake it off like gum on your shoe... *exactly*!! I have heard about this class and I am trying to decide if I have the time or should make the time to take it! Thank you for sharing 'a glimpse' today!

Sherry Lee, I am so excited to see what you will be doing!! Your "need to stay in the lines" sounds like a disguised inner critic... you know where to send that one! I just know you will be making something fabulous, when you let go!
BTW, I love your fall background!!

Looks like messy fun !!
i think many have the perception of being neat and tidy produces the same and you`re wanting it to look perfect - i know this happens to me .
You need to break the mould and try new techniques - get out of the artisitc rut now and then so you can grow yourself
Can`t wait to see what you come up with !! Shake off that doubt and have fun getting messy !!
