Creative Saturday

I've been inspired to be creative on Saturday as per following Chocolate Covered Daydreams. I had a few ideas about how I would be creative but as the day slipped away most of those ideas seemed too involved, industrious and time consuming.

It's the time of year when produce is in abundance...baskets and baskets of fresh produce at farmer's markets and in grocery stores. I had some peaches on hand that were going to be "lost" with only 3 of us here to eat them (and really, it's down to just me when it comes to fruit and digging in every day unless I pack it in school lunches, and peaches just don't travel well), so I decided I'd make a peach cobbler. I've never made peach cobbler before but how hard could it be I thought.

When my boys were young children I baked all the time. It was something I loved when I was a child and wanted to give to my own children. It's been a long time since I donned the apron for some Betty Crocker time.

I went through some recipe books and found this one that had belonged to my sister. She bought this her last Christmas and after she passed away, it came to me. I look at this every Christmas but I have never in nearly 10 years ever used it or made anything from it. Until today.

I followed this recipe

Using my peaches

and some beautiful blueberries (I made sure none fell on the floor and that I had no skids or splits...once per summer is usually my limit!)

This is what ended up in the pan....

And this is what came out....which we will enjoy tonight after dinner with a little cream or ice cream.

Have you been creative today?

Oh my gosh! My mouth is watering! I'm definitely going to copy this recipe down. Did it smell heavenly baking?

Thanks so much for giving a shout out on Creative Saturday. I'm being creative and will post about it in a bit but need to get back to it.

This looks yummy! I have been making plum crumble lately, because the plums (the tart egg shaped ones) are in abundance...

Creative, no. Industrious, yes. (More de-cluttering...)
That peach cobbler looks delicious. If there’s any left over (ha!) you know where I live...or I’ll send Sam to pick it up!

I did bake the other day - egg custard with loads of fresh nutmeg on - it lasted 2 days ! But i have to be in the mood to do it , it tastes so much better than shop bought every time hands down.

Sherry Lee - that looks scrumptious. What time should I arrive for dessert?

Love the peach photo.

I was creative in my kitchen cupboards - re-organizing. Love the feeling when everything is in order - usually doesn't last long so am trying to enjoy it.

I've had supper, getting ready for bed, but this makes me hungry all over again. Shame on you!

Wow that looks good Sherry! I dont think I have ever put peaches and blueberries together though it seems like a natural thing to do since they are both in season at the same time. I have been creative today, sewing, sewing, sewing. And tomorrow, I might sew:>)

That looks so good. Aren't you glad you had your sister's cookbook?!!! She'd be happy you finally made something from it. Gooseberry Patch used to send a catalog out every year. I wonder if they are still around. I'm going to try this recipe. Well done!

What a special book you have from your sister! I have several of those and love the stories behind each recipe...so heartwarming. :)

What I do is add my own stories to the cookbook. When I make the recipe, I put the date, draw a face that shows how good it was, who was with us when we made it, and why on the page.

One day, when my daughters get the books, they'll get not only the recipes, beautiful pinpoint illustrations, but some memories too. :)

P.S. Check out the website...it's great! Their Christmas books are incredible!
