What smells beach to me? Coconut. Lime. Coconut and Lime. I just love the scents separately and together.
While in Myrtle Beach one thing I needed to do was visit the "package store" (as they call it in the U.S. while up here in Toronto it's "the liquor store" (I always thought my dad was calling it the "licorice store" and was sorely disappointed when I never got any!), or the LCBO - Liquour Control Board of Ontario) so I could get some Malibu Coconut Rum. I just loved that I paid $12 for the size bottle I'd have paid about $26 for up here! We are SO heavily taxed on alcohol!!! We didn't drink it all but there was just something so "right" about finishing off the afternoon with some coconut rum mixed with fruit juice, and sipping that on the balcony while soaking up the breeze and listening to the ocean.

The wonderful bonus was the hair care products the Best Western uses. Bath and Body Works Coconut Lime and Verbena shampoo and conditioner. Mmmmmmmm!!! I was using those instead of what I brought with me and the housekeeper was so great about leaving me more, even though she could see I didn't need any. So every time she left me 2 more (plus body lotion thank you very much!), I'd toss them in my suitcase to bring home and relive those "beach memories". Yes, I can purchase these products at Bath and Body Works (especially love that this chain is now in Canada), but it was all about the hotel being on the same page with beach "mojo" as me.
What scents do you associate with specific times/places/events?

Adding a little somethin' somethin' here...Delwyn commented that they can't buy alcohol in grocery stores or convenience stores in Au...we can't do that in Ontario either. Has to be in the specified LCBO or Beer Store. We must not be "mature" enough to handle that here in Ontario. In Quebec you can buy beer and wine in convenience stores...but to my knowledge, not alcohol, though Bonnie and the two Kims could set me straight on that. Not sure about how the other provinces govern that even though I've been to many of them...I'm just not "up" on my laws there. The U.S. is so uncensored about that, though I like that they check photo I.D. for every purchase. Not that kids don't have fake I.D.s, but you take the point.

I love how a scent can take me right back to a wonderful vacation or memory. The scent of sunscreen always takes me to fun places in my mind. But it's not one of those scents I think would sell well as a perfume.
My grandmother always put lavender powder on me after a bath and that scent is still my very favorite of all time.
I always am reminded of my wedding day three years ago when I smell Agent Provocateur Maitresse perfume since I wore that on my wedding day. It still remains my my fav along with my Vivienne Westwood. Yum!
Love,

Hi Sherry
The grog store in Au is called the Bottleshop...We can't buy alcohol in the supermarket for some strange reason...probably to protect all the Bottlestore owners...
Happy days
It is 8:22AM and I want coconut and lime rum with fruit juice! ;D ;D
In Quebec, we call it the Liquor Commission or the SAQ (Societe des Alcohols). My rum of choice is Captain Morgan's Spiced Rum - yummy vanilla spices taste greate with any mix for that perfect evening cocktail...ahhh...hey it is only 9:00 am as I am writing this - a little early for cocktails - even on vacation ! ;)
The smells of Banana Boat sunscreen and Mango lip gloss (I finally found a new one at Target a little while ago), and sea salt remind me the best week of my life ten years in Florida, when David and I had been going out for three months and he took me on the trip down to St. Pete's Beach...he proposed to me there - he had the ring hidden in his luggage and everything...So good...wish I could do it all over again...
Enjoy your Friday, lovely Sherry !
I can remember when the Liquor Stores in Ontario looked like a post office. Just counters to fill out forms that you handed to someone behind a closed counter and someone else would hand you in a paper bag. Seems so strange to me now - in Germany we can buy beer, wine and liquor in the grocery store.
Gee, a Mojito would be nice just now...
OMF yes Renate!!! It was like that here and not all that long ago either. You were made to feel "small" by filling out your choice and then the employee would go to the back and bring it out for you!!! Even before that I remember my parents had a little "book" that they took with them and had it stamped when they'd make a purchase!!!
Strawberries! And everything associated with their scent - the eating, picking, (drinking!) and that whole summertime feeling...
There is a fragrance that comes from the rock rose plant, the sticky leaves are used to make a resinous essential, and when i smell it i am transported to ancient temples and faery worlds. seriously heady, magical stuff.
I was laughing ! You`re like me - and probably many other women - who go and see what goodies a place leaves in the bathroom !!
Of couse they have to be decent brands for me to " nab " them !! ;o)
I love malibu with coke ice and a slice .
And we went through a bottle "o " drive through in Oz ! A strange experience indeed i even filmed it on video ! and no buying alcohol in a supermarket either !
Opium was my first grown up scent i wore - and for summer i wore Eden - i was always asked what scent i was wearing - when i was young free and single !!
Gee, I'm learning things about the U.S. all the time and I live here! I didn't know they called it the package store and I'm amazed Best Western has Bath and Body - Wow!
I love the smell of coconut sunscreen, that is a real beach smell to me. The only other smell I can think of that always reminds me of a place is ...cow manure, lol it reminds me of my Grandpa's farm and I can honestly say a light scent of it makes me smile:>)
