What I Am Learning

Learning new things through reading, exploring ideas and experiencing life doesn't happen overnight. There is the learning process and then there is the point you reach when what you have learned has "become" part of who you are. You move beyond "I have learned" to "I know".

I didn't enjoy the learning experience when I was a student in a classroom in any way compared to the joy I feel at learning and absorbing and knowing at this point in my life. There was no "urgency" to learn when I was younger. I had time stretching ahead of me but more importantly it seemed to me that learning was being imposed upon me. What I want to learn, know and do now is my choice, my mission, my goal.

This is something that I need to remember with regard to others. We don't all learn the same way, at the same pace, in the same time. I'm still learning this lesson, soon to reach the "knowing" stage I believe. What are you learning?

Yes, that is exactly how I feel. I was a dutiful student, if a bored one at times. But now, I really feel an impending lack of time, a need to make the most of it, for lack of a better term. And it's a pleasure!

Oh Girl! What a question!
I know I'm constantly learning.
I learn something every day.
And the best part is that I want to learn and explore and reach new potentials. There is so much out there and I want to soak it all in. I just do not seem to have enough time in each day.

Most of all, I am learning to connect. I have been somewhat of a lone wolf all my life, so this is a lesson that doesn't come easily.

Just stopped by to say a big thanks for your supportive words on my blog.

You made me see something I couldnt see before. Harry is autisitc, him showing me love is an example of how I have worked on teaching him empathy through animals over the years and for the way I care for him and Joe. I didnt see that until you pointed it out to me. That in itself has given me a huge boost.

Thank you Sherry xxxx

I didn't enjoy learning either when I was younger but feel like a little sponge now, soaking up knowledge as fast as I can. For me, it just took getting older to appreciate all there is to learn :)
Right now, I am learning to grow my hair out without getting frustrated!

Love,

Very interesting post! Made me think whether there really are any areas that I can say "I know". I still feel very much a learner in most areas, but at the same time I'm also a teacher :)

Thank you for pointing out that we all don't learn the same way. My middle son is a kinetic learner; he absorbs through action and learns best if he is doing other things while the lesson is being taught. His unique style is hard on the other kids and the teacher. I always hope that everyone around him learns something special about themselves on the flip side :D

There are many different learning styles and if we understand that we can have more patience and empathy when others proceed to learn things differently than we do.

Good teachers address different learning styles by explaining the same thing in different ways that will gel with the different styles. Often teachers we really disliked were teaching in a style that did not match our particular style of learning.

There is so much to learn about learning.

I love learning new things.

Oh the life lessons never end my friend! I'm learning to let go, to concentrate on my own life and what I need to learn more than on trying to teach others! I've found that how much I learn is directly connected to how interested I am in the subject at hand. When we can choose what we want to learn about our success rate goes way up.

I think when you`re younger - you feel you have all the time to learn and before you know it years have passed without thinking and there comes a point in later life , when you need to learn all that can , the clock is ticking away , and you realise this , to make your mark and leave something good behind when you`re gone .

I`m learning - more patience - in my situation now - and it`s really testing me !!!

I've been doing a lot of reflection lately ... I looking back and seeing what I have learnt.

Some of it is positive and some not so.

Even looking back, I can't say I know for sure.

Hi Sherry

this is a good topic. Just as there are many styles of learning there are also different types of learning

We can learn from teachers, and from books, from experiences and from our mistakes.
Some of the most valuable things we learn are from other people's stories and that is why this medium is so universally popular...we can share our stories and learn about different lives and places and connections.

But above all else the greatest learning comes from within...when we allow the outer world to resonate with the inner world and we hear that hum of knowing...that ah ha ...which is a blessing...is the most valuable learning of all for it becomes in time wisdom...

Happy days
