Vitamin D

It seems researchers have discovered that low levels of Vitamin D have been known to be a contributing factor in breast cancer. My doctor shared this information with me a few weeks ago and while testing my blood for other things, added a Vitamin D check. Turns out I'm on the low end of "normal" for Vitamin D levels. I'm now being advised to take 1000 units of Vitamin D daily and take 30 minutes of sunshine per day. Might be a little difficult on a rainy, dull day. But with the weather changing it will be easier. I thought I was getting enough Vitamin D through milk and the Vitamin D in my calcium pills. Apparently not.

Have you checked your level of Vitamin D?

I have read somewhere that everyone living in Northern hemisphere is likely deficient in Vitamin D these days - especially with all of the emphasis on sunscreen and the long winters we experience. The sunshine thing makes such sense.
I am in a funk this morning...It is beautiful out though, and I think I need some D ! Let that golden orb touch my head for awhile !
Let us know how the new regime works, okay ?
Wish we could go and hang out in the sun together for a while...
Hugs

Really? That's interesting. I have several friends who have or have had breast cancer. Thanks for sharing that info!

I try to soak up some D whenever the sun pops out...with sunscreen of course!

Yes I've had doctors tell me to increase my Vit D intake considerably.

Good point.

When I went for my annual wellness check in November, I was found to be extremely deficient in Vitamin D and had to take massive doses for awhile. On a scale where a normal level is 25-30, my level was 2. Thing is, deficiency is also linked to depression which may explain why I was having so much trouble following through on various things. That is getting better, by the way, as I keep taking Vitamin D. So you may feel a sort of general uplifting as time goes by. It takes awhile to feel the difference, a month or so, for me anyway.

I do not know if I'm low in D or not, but I have to take it in my calcium tabs and Fosomax. I already have bone loss. Getting osteoporosis just like my mom. I just do what I can and hope it is the right thing to do because you never know. What is good for you today may not be in the future. Everything in moderation.

I have been taking the same dose Sherry for a few months now and really feel a difference. So many people are lacking in the D vitamins and they don't realise it. I do feel good too after spending most of my time outside yesterday on such a sun filled day :)

How very strange! My sister just asked me the same thing!! I'm assuming I'm good with the sun in San Diego, my calcium pills and my multi-vitamins...
